REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
May 21, 2008

The Regular Meeting of the Bear Lake Village Council was called to order by President Glen Moore at 7:30 p.m. at the Bear Lake Village Hall.

Council Present: Carver Edwards, Howard Higley, Alice Howe, Don Hyrns, Jim Mlejnek, Glen Moore, Ron Ronning, Donna Ronning and George Schafer.

Absent: Larry Mortenson and Michelle Mortenson

Guests: Brian Sousa (Wade-Trim)

Minutes: The April minutes were approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report: Motion by Carver seconded by Ron to accept the Treasurer’s Report as read. Motion carried.

Motion by Ron seconded by Don to pay bills as presented. Motion carried.

Motion by Carver seconded by Don to have Howard replace the boards on the deck. Motion carried.

Motion by Ron seconded by Jim to post a sign telling public water at the beach has not been tested. Motion carried.

Motion by Don seconded by Jim to have Ed Thompson check the trees on Smith Street and other dead trees in the Village. Motion carried.

Motion by Carver seconded by Jim to refrain from selling water to business owners that do not reside in the Village or Township. Motion carried.

Motion by George seconded by Jim to honor rules set for park. Anyone who stays on a drop in site must pay the daily rate. Motion carried.

Discussions Held On:

• Brian Sousa addressed concerns regarding the Professional Services Agreement between the Village of Bear Lake and Wade Trim. Further questions will be sent to the DNR for their response.
• Various ideas to curb the use of the deck by skateboarders were discussed.
• Barricades were put on the sidewalk along Lynn Street for pedestrians safety.
• Minutes and Treatment Plans from the Lake Improvement Board of Bear Lake were distributed.
• Road Commission changed the date of the road repair to the third week of June.
• Customer water bill payments and the need to collect was discussed.
• Old Village Truck was sold.
• Resident complaint regarding yard cleanup was addressed with letters sent to homeowner and Manistee County Health Dept. The Council will continue to followup on this issue.
• Followup will also continue on the need for repairs of a building located on Lake Street.
• The need for a new Junk Ordinance was discussed. The council will address this issue at the next meeting.
